As a home or business owner, it is advised that you have your chimney cleaned and inspected at least once a year if you heat your home with oil, and every two years if you heat with gas. This will keep your furnace running more efficiently; therefore, saving you money on your heating bills, and protect your home from any chimney-related hazards. Fireplace chimneys should be inspected often if they are used on a regular basis throughout the winter.

Chimney cleaning is necessary for the health and safety of your home and its inhabitants. Regular chimney cleanings will help keep your home free of allergens, prevent creosote and dirt buildup, and prevent water from entering the chimney and causing damage (the damage that this buildup, such as creosote, can do is explained a more detail on our main chimney page). Cleanings will also help you to rid your chimney of any unwanted nests, leaves, and other blow-ins from the outdoors.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) advises home and business owners to schedule their annual chimney cleanings around the time of Halloween, as doing so will prepare your chimney for the fall and winter wood-burning season and the approaching cold harsh weather.
